Influenced by his father's untimely death in 1991, Jeff Laing turned his back on the corporate grind. After 15 years in the hospitality industry, he realized time is too short for a passionless life. Following his heart and feeling as if his father was guiding him. Jeff decided to pursue a career in art, just as his father had.
Always interested in form, Jeff found sculpture to be a rewarding path. The satisfaction of working with his hands to create a beautiful line - a form from raw steel - gave life new meaning. As he has gained experience in his medium and confidence in his own artistic expression. Jeff found his creative process branching into conceptual art. He uses his work to express emotion, to connect with the viewer, and to express the joy of creating.
Currently working in stainless steel, bronze, and copper, he creates work recognized for its simple elegance and flowing lines of light. Many works utilize negative space and color to draw the viewer in, letting
interpretation be determined by the viewer's own experiences.
I love to create. The satisfaction of making a thought, memory or emotion into concrete form is what drives me. Unlike cast work, my hand and spirit touches each piece from start to finish. It is a challenge to work in such a rigid, planar medium and to give it life and movement. With my work, I endeavor to create, with a minimal line, an elegant beautiful form. It is my hope that those who collect my sculpture will be inspired by the spirit, beauty, and craftsmanship in each piece.
